Taking an exploratory course is the core of the Cal Teach experience. You will be partnered with an expert mentor teacher and placed in a K-12 classroom to learn more about teaching and the teaching profession.

 

 

Overview

UCLA Cal Teach offers community engagement (XP) courses each quarter that are either math- or science-focused.

Courses combine the theoretical learning in the seminar with the practical application of the hands-on internship.

Courses include

  • Weekly seminar meeting at UCLA
  • 20- to 24-hour internship at a local public school
  • Developing and presenting a lesson (or performance task) to the K-12 class
  • Assisting mentor teacher in math or science activities in the classroom
  • Placement in elementary, middle, or high school

Open to all class levels: freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior.

Intended for math, science and/or engineering majors or other students with a strong science or math background.

Start with any lower division course in any order. No prerequisites.
